POSITION PURPOSE:   To provide Ultrasound services to patients at SKMC in line with corporate and departmental policies and procedures, in line with the mission, values and philosophy of SKMC.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:      A:         BSc in Radiography OR Graduate from an accredited Diploma Program (NLT 3 years

                                    Syllabus).

B:         Graduate from an accredited Radiography program (NLT 2 years Syllabus) and registered

with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, UK-HPC, or equivalent.

                                       * Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Program preferred.

Experience:     A:         NLT 2 years experience in an acute care hospital, including vascular/Doppler,

Obstetrics/gynecology.

B:         NLT 4 years experience in an acute care hospital, including vascular/Doppler, Obstetrics/gynecology.

Licensure:       Current National License.

Certification and other requirements:          Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound program preferred.  BLS preferred. Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively via telephone, email and in person. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate Ultrasound equipment efficiently. Ability to use a computer and basic software programmes. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to work 8-12 hour shift periods. Ability to work weekends, evenings and on-call as required.

  • Understands and appropriately uses the different types of documentation.
  • Analyses, verifies and ensures accuracy of all data sent to healthcare services, including editing as appropriate.
  • Follows established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with appropriate resources to ensure that intended end results are implemented.
  • Assures documentation is submitted and information is relayed to the appropriate departments.

 

4. Ultrasound

 

  • Performs routine and special procedures in Ultrasound in line with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates images produced for acceptable quality, appropriateness and completeness. Forwards recorded images produced for Radiologist review and reporting.
  • Cleans equipment and rooms and restocks all equipment and supplies for subsequent use.
  • Participates in orientating new staff members and training student radiographers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • The Ultrasonographer may be required to work in other areas of the department if needed.

 

5. Education and Training

 

  • Participates in staff meetings, in-service and/or continuing education programmes as required.
  • Participates with the orientation of new staff members and the orientation of student radiographers.

6. Health and Safety

 

  • Practices in accordance with the policies and procedures of health and safety and infection control.

7.  Equipment

 

  • Reports any equipment failure/problems immediately to the Supervisor on duty.

8.  Working Hours

 

  • 8-12 hour shifts including weekends, evenings and on-call as required.
